People of the moment: People with ADHD tend to be very reactive and have difficulty planning for the long term. They react to how they feel at the moment and often do not connect their actions to future consequences. This is not a question of knowing the rules; rather it is a difficulty with acting upon what they know.
* To do’s: Provide regular reminders of rules and expectations. Be sure that these reminders are clearly posted in prominent locations in the classroom. Post rules on the child’s desk, notebooks, lockers and blackboards. When possible provide rule reminders, but be sure to remind the whole class, try not to isolate the student. Remind about rules and expectation prior to transitions: “these are the recess rules……”
